Uyghurs, victims of modern genocide
Genocide is an internationally recognized crime where acts are committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Is the intent of China to destroy or eliminate Muslim minorities in China?
China is targeting Uyghurs with various measures. The most known measures are the “educational camps.” This is a modern version of the concentration camps, the only difference between these camps is that the Uyghurs are not killed on a large scale in these “educational camps”, rather they are tormented.
It is well documented that these education camps are based on Detention and Torture. At this moment there are more than 1.5 million detainees. The only reason to put civilians in these camps are: being an Uyghur (or another Muslim minority) and being a Muslim. Detainees are forced to pledge loyalty to the CCP and renounce Islam, as well as sing praises for communism and learn Mandarin. Children whose parents have been sent to the camps are often forced to stay in state-run orphanages. In these orphanages children are brainwashed or are transferred to Han- families. Uyghur woman face another threat, they are forced to marry Han-men, this is part of China’s attempt to eradicate Uighur culture and assimilate them into the Han-dominated society. The woman are also forced to take medicines which causes infertility.
These acts are, in my opinion, acts of genocide. The intent of China is crystal clear. It is to eliminate Muslims minorities. It is a shame that the international community is not forcing China to end these practices. It means that we did not learn our lessons from the past. We should boycott Chinese products
